教會是基督的身體，祂是頭，信徒是肢體，彼此相依。若一個肢體受苦，全身就一同受苦；若一個肢體得榮耀，全身也一同快樂。彼此照顧，正是教會群體生活的核心精神。教會存在的目的，是要成全聖徒，建立基督的身體，使信徒在真理和愛心中漸漸成熟。
「正如我們一個身子上有好些肢體，肢體也不都是一樣的用處；我們這許多人，在基督裡成為一身，互相聯絡作肢體，也是如此。」羅馬書12:4-5
